Time After Time/Just One Of Those Things/I’ve Never Been In Love Before/Max/Estate/The End of A Love Affair/Shiny Stockings/Love For Sale/Please Send Me Someone To Love/Little Suede Shoes/Summertime TT: 63 :46

I must admit that I had about my fill of Hammond B-3 Organ music at one time but I also must admit that this ace player changed my mind in a hurry. I cannot imagine where this person gets all her energy and talent but it is there from the first minute of this CD to the last. The first two tunes show her up tempo side and then she changes direction with a very melodic and reflective tune. Max, composed by Jeff Hamilton, is taken at a nice clip and then comes one of my real highlights of this very successful recording, Estate, composed by Joao Gilberto. It has many other readings over the years but this one is very special and again taken very much in a ballad tempo. Other highlights include Little Suede Shoes taken in typical bop fashion. Shiny Stockings has been a favorite of mine since the Basie days. In other words one music peak is followed by the next one. Each tune gets very special treatment and the rapport between Atsuko’s playing and that of her husband, Yutaka, on guitar, is very obvious. I am sure it goes without saying that Jeff Hamilton has now earned the reputation of one fine drummer. The trio cooks perfectly.

Atsuko Hashimoto has made US tours including the Monterey Jazz Festival. She has worked at several locations on the West Coast as well as at a club in New York City. She and the other members of her trio have a very enviable resumé.

The sound quality on this Japanese issue is sparkling. The liner notes, bi-lingual in Japanese and English, are written by Pete Fallico and really quite fascinating. So this is a first rate package from beginning to end and well recommended to anyone interested in an unusual and vibrant organ trio set. The compact disc may not be all that easy to get but is available on the internet through CD Baby or by mail at Thousand Days Records, 202 Lupinus-Minamihorie, 2-12-13 Minamihorie Nishi-Ku, 550-0015 Osaka-Shi, Japan.
